What a website actually costs in India, and what you're paying for

In short

A basic business website in India usually costs ₹10,000 to ₹50,000. A professional, custom-built site runs ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh, and an online store starts around ₹80,000. Most of that price gap comes down to who you hire, not how good the finished site is.

Ask three people what a website costs in India and you will get three very different numbers. One quotes ₹8,000, another ₹80,000, a third crosses two lakh. All of them can be telling the truth. This is a breakdown of what those numbers actually buy, so you can judge a quote instead of guessing at one.

How much does it cost to make a website in India?

For a standard business website, expect ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 for professional work, and ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 if you are buying a template with your details added. A fully custom site runs higher, and an online store starts higher again. These are the ranges you will see quoted across Indian studios and freelancers in 2026:

  • Template site (a ready-made theme with your logo and text dropped in): ₹5,000 to ₹20,000
  • Standard business website (custom look, mobile-ready, a handful of pages): ₹20,000 to ₹60,000
  • Professional custom site (bespoke design, more pages, SEO groundwork): ₹60,000 to ₹2,00,000
  • Online store: from ₹80,000, rising with the size of your catalogue

Why is there such a big gap in website prices?

The gap rarely reflects a twenty times difference in quality. It reflects overheads. A large agency carries an office, a sales team and account managers, and those costs sit inside your quote before anyone touches your website. A freelancer or a small studio carries far less of that, so more of what you pay reaches the actual work. Neither is automatically the better choice. The point is to know what you are funding.

What are you actually paying for?

A website price bundles several separate jobs together. When a quote looks cheap, it usually means one or more of these has been left out and handed back to you:

  • Design: how the site looks and how a visitor moves through it
  • Build: turning that design into a fast, working, mobile-ready site
  • Content: the words, images and structure that make the case for your business
  • Setup: domain, hosting, business email, analytics and the contact or payment tools you need
  • Support: fixes and updates, and someone to reach when something breaks

A ₹8,000 quote usually covers the first two and leaves the rest to you. A ₹1 lakh quote should cover all five and arrive ready to bring you enquiries. So when you compare two prices, compare what is inside them, not the number at the bottom.

How much does a website cost per month in India?

Building the site is a one-time cost. Keeping it online is not, though the running cost is small. Budget for a domain name at roughly ₹800 to ₹1,500 a year, and hosting at around ₹200 to ₹500 a month for a small business site. Maintenance is optional and worth it once the site is earning you business. For a simple site the total running cost is often under ₹1,000 a month. Be careful with builders that fold everything into a single monthly fee, because you can end up renting a website you never actually own.

Where do business owners waste the most money?

The expensive mistakes are rarely about spending too little. They are about spending in the wrong place.

  • Paying agency prices for a template. If the work is a stock theme with your logo added, you should be paying template money for it.
  • Buying pages you do not need. Most small businesses need a few pages that answer real customer questions, not fifteen that no one reads.
  • Cutting the parts that convert. A cheap site that no customer trusts is the most expensive kind, because it quietly costs you the enquiries you never hear about.
  • Renting instead of owning. Your website and your customer data should belong to you, not to whoever built it.

So what should you budget?

For most small businesses in Delhi, and across India, a well-built site designed to bring in enquiries sits in the ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 range. Spend less and you are usually buying a template. Spend more and you are paying for custom work or an online store. At AETHEX we start business websites at ₹7,999, deliberately at the accessible end, and we tell you exactly which of the five jobs above your price includes. Online stores cost more because there is more to build and run.

The useful question is never only how much a website costs. It is what the price includes, and whether the finished site is built to earn its keep. Get clear answers to those two and the number stops being a gamble.

Common questions

Is a cheap website worth it?

It can be, if you know what you are buying. A budget template site is fine for a simple online presence. It is a poor choice when you need the site to bring in customers, because the parts that do that are usually the first things cut to hit a low price.

Do I pay for a website once or every month?

Building the site is usually a one-time cost. After that you pay a small amount each year for the domain and hosting, often under ₹1,000 a month in total. Be cautious with services offered only as a monthly plan, since you often do not own the site if you stop paying.

How long does it take to build a website in India?

A standard business website takes roughly one to three weeks once your content is ready. Larger custom sites and online stores take longer, depending on the number of pages and products.

Can I start with a small website and upgrade later?

Yes. A sensible approach is to launch a focused site that covers the essentials, then add pages, an online store or new features as the business grows.
